Naomi Paul is an interior product and textile design company founded by designer Naomi Paul, specialising in traditionally hand crafted innovative objects and materials for interior spaces.
Born of German and English descent, Naomi grew up on a farm in Sussex. After studying Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins she then went on to complete a degree in Constructed Textile Design at Chelsea college of Art and design, graduating in 2006.
Naomi’s approach to design is founded upon the basis of creating objects and textiles that serve a purpose and that do this through good design and skilled craftsmanship. Sustainability is a key part of Naomi’s design process and is integral to the development of each product from sourcing surplus, recycled & native materials, innovative construction and deconstruction techniques through to responsible packaging and end of life considerations.
Launched in 2011 Naomi’s debut lighting solutions, the Omi Pendant Collection evolved from the desire to create flat pack lighting that is timeless playful and quietly opulent designed sourced and made in the UK. The shades can be used in any interior setting to create a soft atmospheric ambience and also a sculptural focal point to the space, whether lit or not. Strong bold shapes contrasted with the use of soft tactile materials such as mercerized (waxed) cotton sourced from industry surplus, simple yet skilful and precisely crafted by hand using traditional crochet techniques, each piece holds its own unique narrative. The pendants are lit using award winning Plumen low energy bulbs.
Naomi recently won ‘Young Designer 2012’ Homes & Gardens magazine and selected by Kevin McCloud, Grand Designs as one of his 10 Green Heroes of 2012.
Currently based in London, Naomi is one of the co-founding members of much lauded textile design collective Bricolage Project. A textile think-tank for sustainable, ethical, forward thinking textile design. The collective launched at Tent London in 2009 to much critical acclaim, and were named ‘Best Stand in show’ by Elle Decoration.
